Made from 1,8 ha of vines exposed to the south/south-east, situated above the renowned areas of the northern part of the appellation, in the town of Ampuis. “Terres Sombre” is not the name of an actual place, but comes from the brown color of the soil (composed of schist, typical of the northern part of the AOC). High density of vines, low yields, effeuillage, and green harvests all take place. Vines treated without insecticides of pesticides, the number of treatments are restrained according to the weather. Manual harvest, and in the cave, rigorous sorting, pressing, and partial destemming occur. Fermentation of the skins “en cuves ouvertes for 2 weeks controlling the temperatures, regular pigeage and remontage. Malolactic fermentation in barrels with native yeast. Aged 18 months in barrels.
The nose of this wine evokes red fruits nuanced with spices and eucalyptus. In the mouth it is delicate and caressing, with silky tannins giving it more fullness. A “vin de garde,” it is preferable to wait 4 to 5 years and can be aged 15+ years depending on the year. Annual Production: Approximately 8.000 bottles
Maturity: 2011-2018
