Romain Guiberteau produces magnificent wines from “grands terroirs” where he displays the full potential of the of the appellation Saumur. The Saumur Brézé is a “vin de garde (10-20 years)” and an assembly of two parcels of vines of Chenin Blanc. The age of the vines is over 40 years. The soil is clay-limestone (Brézé) spread over 1,2 ha. The grapes are pressed whole and very slowly. Fermentation is carried out with native yeast in new barrels of 1 and 2 wines. Ageing takes place “sur lies” in barrels during 9 to 24 months. Yield 30hl/ha. Avg. annual production: 5.000 bottles. No chaptalisation used. This well-structured, immense wine will reward those who have patience.
Maturity: 2014-2024.
