Grape(s): 90% Syrah from various parcels, 10% Viognier from Tupin
Terroir: For this cuvée, 10% of vines come from Côte Brûne and 90% come from Côte Blonde from terraces and steep slopes of 40 degrees. Vines come from 4 separate areas: Les Bercheries (soil type Gneiss), Tupin (soil type Gneiss), Côteaux de Bassenon (soil type migmatite sombre), and tiny ,3 ha of vines at Verenay (soil type micashistes from Côte Brûne) dating from 1992. At this site he has planted 500 young Viognier cuttings grafted from an old massale plant. Age of vines: 15 to 40 years old.
Harvest: Steep slopes require manual harvest using small bins. No chemicals, herbicides, pesticides used on vines.
Yields: 30hl/ha
Vinification/élévage: Partial de-stemming. Natural yeasts used. No additional enzymes used. No sulfur used (=vin naturel). Côte Rôties are racked only once, and no fining or filtration. Cold semi carbonic maceration, punching of the cap and pumping up; ageing in barrels for 24 months, no new oak.
Annual Production for Domaine: 9.600 bottles/800 cases + small amount of Syrah and Viognier VDP des Rhodaniennes.
ONE SHOULD DECANT WINE BEFORE DRINKING. WINE WILL REMAIN GOOD FOR 3 DAYS IN OPEN BOTTLE.
