Léonard Humbrecht set a very high standard for the quality of Alsace wines, and his son, Olivier, has again pushed the standards to obtain wines without equal in the region. If the wines of the 1990s were marked by the “équilibres moelleux” reflecting the aged maturity of the grapes, the switch to biodynamic viticulture at the turn of the century has resulted in more dry wines, with a higher acidity, presenting sometimes slightly higher alcohol levels. After the great vintage of 2007, the 2008s are similar in style with a slight difference: the Pinot Gris with a drier balance, the Gewurztraminers slightly more fruity, and the Rielsings still remaining dry.

The Z-H Pinot Gris Rotenberg 2008 is actually a demi-sec marked by yellow fruits and wheat on the nose, very concentrated in the mouth, with light tanins on the finish. The relatively high acidity in the cuvée keeps the wine vibrant and fresh, and makes the wine very digestible. A beautiful evolution awaits.
