Léonard Humbrecht set a very high standard for the quality of Alsace wines, and his son, Olivier, has again pushed the standards to obtain wines without equal in the region. If the wines of the 1990s were marked by the “équilibres moelleux” reflecting the aged maturity of the grapes, the switch to biodynamic viticulture at the turn of the century has resulted in more dry wines, with a higher acidity, presenting sometimes slightly higher alcohol levels. After the great vintage of 2007, the 2008s are similar in style with a slight difference: the Pinot Gris with a drier balance, the Gewurztraminers slightly more fruity, and the Rielsings still remaining dry.
A very beautiful vintage for the Clos Häuserer that combines a perfect maturity of the grapes with a dry balance. The wine is ample, mineral, with some noble bitterness on the finale. A “vin de garde.”
