Made from 1,8 ha of vines exposed to the south/south-east, situated above the renowned areas of the northern part of the appellation, in the town of Ampuis. “Terres Sombre” is not the name of an actual place, but comes from the brown color of the soil (composed of schist, typical of the northern part of the AOC). High density of vines, low yields, effeuillage, and green harvests all take place. Vines treated without insecticides of pesticides, the number of treatments are restrained according to the weather conditions. Manual harvest, and in the cave, rigorous sorting, pressing, and partial destemming occur. Fermentation of the skins “en cuves ouvertes for approximately 3 weeks controlling the temperatures, regular pigeage and remontage. Malolactic fermentation in barrels with native yeast. Aged 18 months in barrels.
The nose of this wine evokes ripe red fruits nuanced with spices and tapenade. In the mouth it is ample and powerful, balanced with a nice tannic frame giving it a long finish. Delicate notes are present from the ageing in barrels. A “vin de garde,” it is preferable to wait 4 to 5 years and can be aged 15+ years depending on the year. Production: Approximately 11.000 bottles
Maturity: 2013-2030
