Since 1989, Jacky Blot has increased greatly the fame of the appellation Montlouis-sur-Loire that suffers in the shadow of Vouvray in terms of notoriety, but which surprises in the quality of its wines. Affable yet intense, Jacky forges ahead crafting his gourmet whites with passion and precision. He continues to show the way in refining his style, whether it be bubbles, dry whites, or sweet wines, being able to compare, thanks to his crus, Montlouis as well as Vouvray. Jacky was the first winemaker in Montlouis to age his wine for a long time in barrels, but in the last 10 years, his dry whites are noticeably less woody. A definite domaine to discover if you have not already done so! Schildknecht “Scents of quince iris and rowan make for an intriguingly perfumed Blot 2009 Vouvray Clos des Venise. I tasted this from barrel where it was still very slowly fermenting, and Blot hoped it would come closer to complete dryness. Bright lemon and pineapple join the elements adumbrated in the nose on a luscious palate the displays acidity and energy uncommon for its vintage and reflecting the early harvest here at Taille aux Loups. This cuvee combines density with levity, and is enhanced by persistently wafting floral perfume. There is no overt sweetness, and the existing residual sugar is I suspect helping to put the fruit in relief and enhance the sense of generous primary juiciness. So I can see only one reason for waiting in hope if will ferment further, namely the possibility of bottling it stably without filtration, but Blot says he is resigned to lightly filtering his 2009s anyway.”
