Since 2002, Jacky Blot has perfected his Cabernet Francs at Bourgeil. Jacky selects his parcels similar to the burgundy model, with a gourment “Le Pied de la Butte,” a more complex “Le Haut de la Butte,” and a sensual and well-structured “Mi-Pente.” Jacky Blot's Mi-Pente represents the “plus grande cuvée de terroir” at Bourgueil. According to Schildknecht “The Domaine de la Butte 2008 Bourgueil Mi-Pente smells of violets, smoky-sweet machine oil, and cassis, which mingle on a satisfyingly juicy and for the vintage surprisingly thick palate, accompanied by hints of mint chocolate, meat stock and game. The quotient of new wood here is in no way obvious. As the wine’s floral and animal aspects evolve in the open glass it becomes clear that an element of brettanomyces is implicated in this wine’s complexity.”
