Since 2002, Jacky Blot has perfected his Cabernet Francs at Bourgeil. Jacky selects his parcels similar to the burgundy model, with a gourment “Le Pied de la Butte,” a more complex “Le Haut de la Butte,” and a sensual and well-structed “Mi-Pente.” According to David Schildknecht: “From breezy upper slopes (just below the forest) that are typically harvested last, and raised in wooden uprights and seasoned barriques, the 2009 Bourgueil Le Haut de la Butte will offer a lot of pleasure over the next 2-3 years. Last tasted assembled in tank – set for a September bottling – it offers a bright, refreshing side to its ripe berry fruits as well as a buoyancy and animation that are rare in this vintage...iris floral perfume and hints of iodine add complexity, while a subtle sense of creaminess supplies counterpoint to the wine’s sappy fresh fruit. The tannins here are so subtle you barely notice. A dynamic interplay of mineral, floral, and berry elements makes for a beautifully persistent finish. This displays finesse uncommon for its vintage. It should certainly merit following for at least 6-8 years. The 2005 is drinking beautifully now.”
